SSE chose a variety of manufacturers’ vehicles in order to provide the best return on cost of ownership taking into account factors such as payload capacity and fuel efficiency systems that reduce overall fuel costs and CO2 emissions.
In the ever-changing external environment, operator safety is paramount. To help them accomplish this, SSE appointed vehicle racking specialists Tevo Limited to provide the safe and efficient storage of a wide variety of tools and parts, which are utilised in the everyday working life of the fleet. With 30 years experience in the field of vehicle conversions, Tevo were able to maximise the overall vehicle payload capacity and optimise every inch of the vehicle’s cargo space by fully understanding the needs of the fleet whilst maintaining the operator’s safety. Customer consultations were conducted within various areas of the SSE business to ensure a
fit for purpose and safe working environment was provided within the fleet.
“It is vital that we comply with the changes in safety standards which results in the need for the correct safety equipment to be carried within the vehicle along with the relevant tools required to complete the job. The consultancy with the various business users is an important process in understanding their current and future needs in order to provide the conversion company the necessary information for them to provide solutions which fulfil our duty of care requirements,” said Gemma Trew, commercial manager fleet services of SSE.
Equally, Tevo has invested heavily in ensuring the most up-to-date products are fitted. Crash testing simulations are created and then carried out to provide accurate evidence of the product’s capabilities in the event of an incident. The alliance comes at an opportune time due to the recent expansion of Tevo’s conversion facilities.
“SSE has engaged us with their working groups, which has enabled us to understand the end users needs thus providing a better and more importantly a safer working environment. This has also enabled us to enhance our service offerings to other utility companies for future projects,” commented Paul Railston, commercial director of Tevo.
Tevo proudly see their long lasting partnership with SSE as testament to their dedication to customer service. Collectively both parties understand the business challenges that lie ahead and will continue to work together to overcome these obstacles.
Modul-System vehicle racking crash tested to TÜV certificationFollowing on from the duty of care aspect, as an ongoing part of the Modul-System Group’s safety programme, a crash test of the
Modul-System vehicle racking was conducted on 20th May 2011 at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre.
The tests were carried out on racking fitted inside a Volkswagen Transporter chassis as well as in a traditional crash cage enabling us to compare the results. Both crash tests were conducted in the same way, a head-on collision with a sled conforming to the required rate of ECE R17-20g pulse, in practice this equates to a speed of 30mph.
With similar results between body and crash cage, the Modul-System range has now been approved and certified to the TÜV standard.
Tackling global climate changeTevo are already achieving this through the use of high quality products, which are designed with recyclable materials and with minimum weight resulting in a reduction in a vehicle’s overall payload and therefore lowering carbon dioxide emissions.

In addition, Tevo through the Modul-System Group have now gone a step further in proud association with WWF’s tree project. From July to September a tree will be planted for every order received. So when you order products from Tevo, you too will be playing a part in contributing to lowering greenhouse gases and helping our planet’s survival.
