Eco-friendly energy

The University of Lincoln has switched to new green energy suppliers as it bids to minimise its environmental impact.
The University has signed deals with E-On and Opus Energy which mean electricity supplied to its five campuses now comes from renewable sources.
The E-On contract provides eco-friendly power for the main Brayford Pool campus, as well as buildings at Hull, Riseholme and the Cathedral campuses. The new green tariff agreed with Opus Energy covers the Holbeach campus and Chad Varah House in Lincoln.
Daniel Clayton, environment sustainability manager at the University of Lincoln, said: “This is an important step for the university in our efforts to lessen our impact on the environment. Ensuring our electricity comes from renewable sources, as well as trying to lower our total energy usage, will help us to cut our carbon footprint. It also means we are supporting the renewable energy industry. The difference in price between the old tariffs and the new ones is negligible, and given the environmental benefits, the change is very much worthwhile.”
The move towards renewable energy suppliers is just one of the steps the University has taken to improve its environmental performance by reducing or offsetting consumption of energy and other resources.
